To determine the exact height of electrical steel packages for electrical motors and transformer cores in relation to the installation size and the motor performance the ?filling factor? is an important dimension.
If a manufacturer of electric motors and transformers constructs a motor or transformer, then he knows how high it is. The height is determined basically by the height of the stator core. This, in turn, then determines the performance of the motor. Since the stator core is made from coated electrical steel, the thickness of the steel (filling factor) ultimately determines the performance of the motor and consequently the height of the electric motor.
The procedure for using the stacking factor tester is as follows:
After the samples of electrical steel have been measured and weighed they are stacked to a minimum height of 6 mm and fixed between the jowls of the press.
