The high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR or roller press), consists out of two rollers with the same dimensions, which are rotating against each other with the same circumferential speed. The surface of the rollers is exchangeable as wear part (tyre with studs). The special choke feeding of bulk material through a hopper leads to a material bed between the two rollers. Bearing units allow the movable roller to be pressed against the material bed by hydraulic cylinders. The operating gap is pressure and distance controlled by the PLC rogrammable Logical Controller). The main grinding action is performed by interparticle crushing. Extreme pressure causes the particles inside of the compacted material bed to fracture into finer particles and also causes microfracturing at the grain size level.
