The Metso stirred media detritor (SMD) can accommodate numerous varieties of feed slurry solids concentrations that rest in a range of 20-60% w/w.
This meets the majority of metalliferous fine and ultra fine grinding requirements. The required size for a top screen SMD is 1,100 kW.

Its enhanced design enables a number of benefits such as open circuit operation, competitive capital cost, utilization of inexpensive ceramic, natural silica sand or pebble media. The product is prevented from steel contamination. This equipment is capable of operating continuously at full load power draw.
