The Surfcom and Countourecord machines from Zeiss are made in the 1500 to 2900 series with one base column for every model. The sensors are the only items that will change. Added sensors may be placed to create a contour measuring system on a surface measuring setup. More sensors may also be retrofitted as needed with white light or hybrid controls as needed. The system can be upgraded in a short period of time no matter what has to be added.

The unit uses a non-contact linear drive that is faster than spindle drives and can be activated on more sensors including hybrid, surface and white light sensors. The topography function may be upgraded as needed and a tracing driver will create a compliant body that also works with a hand wheel as needed. The hand wheel can turn the driver 15 degrees either way.
