Ultrasound operates by the detection of high frequency sound that is associated with friction, turbulence and arcing in industrial systems. These sounds are then interpreted down the audible range when they then can be listened by using a headset and viewed on the meter. The translation takes place through heterodyning which the comparison of the incoming signals with one that is generated by the meter . The meters are exceptionally sensitive to sounds in the audible range of 40 KHz, that is two times the frequency of the best human hearing. Because our focus is on a specific band of sound, so industrial noise, wind noise, traffic, and voices along with other typical operational sounds will not be detected. One can actually shout directly inside of the sensor and hear nothing. This exact frequency allows for precise leak detection and bearing defect discovery.
