The CAN/CANopen extension module are made to work with a second CAN controller on an MSC I or II. This can be made to create two separate CAN networks and can use connectors on the first controller on the front cover of the MSC unit. This is also useful for being mounted on a DIN top-hat rail and can be linked to an MSC unit on an inside extension bus. The CAN in this case refers to the Controller Area Network.
