The Brabender break mill SM-3 is a state of the art laboratory mill which was primarily created to handle a wide variety of grain like products like wheat and rye as well as oats and barley not to mention rice for sampling. It is composed of three reversible cutting plates as well as a rotating block with an additional four reversible cutting plates. It is equipped with a thread with a scaled ring at the top of the mill that allows the adjustment of the milling gap.

The heating of the samples and loss of moisture in the course of the milling process is avoided because of the break mills design.
