The LITTELFUSE's A2000 series fiber-optic sensors can successfully perform arc detection on the entire sensor length. They are installed with the fiber along the back switchboard wall, covering all compartments with only one sensor. The installation need to ensure a line-of-sight to all powered connections, where an arc could develop. The sensor can easily detect light from all angles, while the detection radius depends on the arc power. At a trip level setting on the PGR-8800 of "1", these sensors will react to arcs of over 3 kA in a 1 m radius, while depending on the compartment width and the overall fiber length that is exposed to the arc light.
