Cable displacement sensors are based on an extremely simple operating principle of transforming the linear displacement of the cable into a rotary displacement by means of a drum connected to a return spring. The sensor outputs a signal proportional to the cable displacement through a hybrid potentiometer or an encoder which is fixed to the drum shaft.
Its is either analogue (voltage or current) or a pulse signal.
