The patented ARCTIS (Active Road / Runway Condition Temperature of Ice Formation Sensor) sensor is used as a complement to the passive BoPAS or BOSO sensor. The ARCTIS sensor surface is submitted to cooling and heating cycles generated by a Peltier element.

A PT100 temperature sensor placed close to the sensor surface allows to detect the freezing point of an aqueous solution. The freezing point can be given until 15?C below the pavement temperature.

This active technology provides a reliable information about ice forming conditions on road surface independently of the kind of de-icing agent engaged The cycles are used to detect any risk or presence of black ice, frost, ice or freezing snow on the pavement.

The sensor can be supplied with a housing for special applications (airports, etc.).
